Whiskey Sour

The Whiskey Sour is a classic drink that had evolved from the practice of adding lime juice to rum in order to prevent scurvy among British sailors in the 1700’s. Later, the sailors added sugar to make it more tasty and thus the whiskey sour was born. The drink was first mentioned in 1862 in Jerry Thomas’s famed A Bartenders Guide. Whiskey Sourwhiskey-sour

1 3/4 oz. bourbon or whiskey

1 oz. fresh lemon juice

3/4 oz. simple syrup, or 1 Tbsp powdered sugar

½ small egg white

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled 4 -5 oz cocktail glass.
