The Churchill cocktail was created for Winston Churchill on one of his many visits to the American Bar by bartender Joe Gilmore at the Savoy hotel in London. The recipe was first printed in Esquire in September 1939, nine months before Churchill became Prime Minister, and features his beloved Scotch whisky.
The Churchill
3 parts Scotch whisky (Churchill preferred Johnnie Walker)
1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
1 part sweet vermouth
1 part Cointreau
Shake ingredients together with ice, and strain into a chilled 4 – 5 oz . cocktail glass.
