Zombie (Don the Beachcomber’s)

Legend has it that Don Beach originally concocted the Zombie to help a hung-over customer get through a business meeting.  He returned several days later to complain that he had been turned into a zombie for his entire trip. Its smooth, fruity taste works to conceal its extremely high alcoholic content. Don the Beachcomber restaurants limit their customers to two Zombies apiece.

Don the Beachcombers Zombie (1934 recipe)

Zombie1 Tsp brown sugar
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz Gold Puerto Rican Rum
1 oz 151 – proof Demerara Rum from Guyana (Lemon Heart)
1 oz White Puerto Rican Rum
1 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz passion fruit juice
1 dash Angostura bitters

Dissolve the brown sugar in the lemon juice and combine it with the other ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and serve it in a collins glass over crushed ice.
