Whiskey Sour

Forget the cosmos, lemon drops or vodka & Red Bull, and have a real cocktail with texture,balance of flavor and is one of America’s oldest cocktails. The original was made with brandy and egg white but once Southerners learned to distill their own spirits, whiskey replaced brandy as the base spirit around 1900. Gin or Rum can be used as the base spirit as well.

Whiskey Sour

1½ ounces Bourbon Whiskey (Maker’s Mark or Michter’s work well)
½ ounce fresh Lemon Juice
1 tsp powdered sugar, or ½ oz simple syrup
1 small egg white
Orange slice and Maraschino cherry for garnish

Place all ingredients (except garnish) in cocktail shaker. Shake hard to emulsify the egg white. Drink should be frothy when poured. Serve in chilled cocktail glass, or double old fashioned glass. Also add a few dashes of Angostura bitters on top.
