Found in “Cocktails by ‘Jimmy’ late of Ciro’s” (this Ciro’s was a successful London club in the 1930’s before another popular one opened up on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood in 1940). This cocktail is also mentioned by Al Hirschfeld in his book “The Speakeasies of 1932″ as having been recommended by the owner of the Manhattan speakeasy, The 163 Club.
1 ounce brandy
1 ounce Plymouth Sloe Gin
1 ounce Curacao (we prefer orange Curacao)
1 egg yolk
1 tsp Roses Grenadine
1 tsp cream
½ tsp fresh lemon juice
Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously emulsify the egg and strain into a chilled 4 oz cocktail glass.
